This is primarily a place for takeout and home delivery. In fact, based both on convenience and quality (but especially its very high quality), it is my personal pizzeria of choice for delivery to my home in Crescent Hill. If we're too busy or too lazy to cook, the cry goes up, "Let's call Tony Boombozz!"
Traditional pizzas are $5.95 (for a 10-inch small pie with tomato sauce and mozzarella) to $14.95 (for a 14-inch large "The Bozz," featuring pepperoni, ham, sausage, mushrooms, onions and peppers, olives and tomatoes). Choose your toppings from a list of 15 options and add 75 cents, $1 or $1.20, depending on the size of pie. Nearly a dozen "gourmet creations," many of them flagged as having won national and international pizza prizes, come in medium only and range from $9.95 to $12.95. Some of my favorites include d'Sienna, fresh spinach and white ricotta cheese sauce topped with a blend of grated cheeses and Roma tomatoes; Margherita, a somewhat idiosyncratic take on the Neapolitan original, this one with chopped plum tomatos and dried basil on melted bocconcini mozzarella; and Quattro Stagione ("Four seasons"), with fennel sausage, Parma prosciutto, artichoke hearts and portabello mushrooms representing the seasons. It's the most fun when you can get them to put the ingredients on separate quarters, as in the Italian tradition, but this instruction is often ignored. I've found the pollo (chicken in barbecue sauce) and several choices featuring roasted potatoes as a pizza topping to be a bit over the top, but there's no accounting for taste. Boombozz pizzas in general are well-made, featuring quality ingredients and flavorful sauces on a standard, breadlike, not-too-thick crust. You can also get fine panini (oven-baked sandwiches), all $5.75 for a variety of ingredients like caprese (tomatoes, mozzarella and basil pesto) or Italiano (sliced ham, fennel sausage, roast peppers and onions) hot from the oven on chewy focaccia bread. We enjoyed a filling lunch the other day, a margherita pizzette and oversize order of garlic bread sticks and soft drinks, and got away for just a bit over $10. $ OTHER LOCATIONS: 1448 Bardstown Road, 2813 N. Hurstbourne Parkway No. 101 (Hurstbourne just south of Westport Road near Springhurst), 394-0000.
