Cape Diamond Merlot 2003 Oregon

Oregon winemaker Ken Wright has been a long-time friend of the Liquor Barn, as well as a favorite of the various wine press (no pun intended!) with his single-vineyard Pinot Noir wines consistently garnering top scores. When Ken got the itch to try something new, we couldn't wait to be a part of it. And while Ken's true love will always be Pinot Noir, we consider ourselves lucky that he decided to have a little fling with Merlot.
The 2003 Cape Diamond Merlot, made by Ken from fruit sourced from Southern Oregon, is rich ruby/purple, with a medium-full bouquet that displays a lightly spicy edge to the rich black fruit aromas, with hints of truffle and oak lingering in the background. Medium-dry and full-bodied on the palate, it slowly unfolds to reveal ripe cherry, black raspberry, a touch of cassis and a hint of mocha spice. It possesses perfect balance (which seems to be this wine's hallmark) and a long finish that shows off some brightness in the aftertaste.
