Restaurant Reviews

NOTE: Vince Staten no longer lives in Louisville and is no longer known to have any connection with the eatery that bears his name. Staten's has moved from the pictured location to new quarters about a mile east on US 42, across the Oldham County line, in a new shopping center on the approximate location of the old Melrose Inn. While the barbecue remains acceptable, it's far from memorable, so this is no longer one of my highly recommended places for barbecue.

Vince Staten's NR Vince Staten's Old Time Barbecue
13306 W. US 42, Prospect
(502) 228-7427

Courier-Journal video critic Vince Staten, who literally wrote the book on barbecue (Real Barbecue, with Greg Johnson), makes it for sale now, and the smoked goodies at this Prospect shopping center joint rate -- in the book's own taxonomy -- as "good as I ever ate." Connoisseurs will also appreciate the six separate sauces on every table and retail "library" of sauces from all over the world. $
